Come and enjoy a festive holiday concert on Sunday, December 5 at 3:00 PM at Grace Episcopal/Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 13 Court Street in Cortland. This event will mark the seventh time The Arts at Grace has presented a musical Christmas offering to the greater Cortland community. The SUNY Cortland Choral Union and IC Brass will perform stirring seasonal music for brass, choirs, and keyboard. The program will conclude with interested audience members joining the choirs for the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah. There is no charge for admission. A reception for the musicians and audience will follow the performance.

IC Brass is an Ithaca College music group comprised of five music majors who have performed in the Ithaca area for the past two years. Senior trumpet players are Emily Waltz and Jen Fox. Sophomore Will Llarch is the group's horn player while juniors Eddie Steenstra and Kevin Kozik play the trombone and tuba respectively. IC Brass will perform a combination of works for brass quintet and festive holiday selections.

For the past fifty years, The Choral Union has been a college-community choir consisting of Cortland students, faculty, and staff, plus many experienced singers from the Cortland area. Choral Union is currently under the leadership of conductor and music director Dr. Stephen B. Wilson, professor of music in the Department of Performing Arts at SUNY Cortland. Since 1985, Wilson has led the ensemble in a wide variety of music drawn from the standard repertoire of the renaissance, baroque, classical and modern periods. The group's most recent triumph was the 2010 Good Friday performance of J.S. Bach's entire St Matthew Passion with double chorus, double orchestra, and six soloists. Working with Wilson, well-known local pianist Alan Giambattista accompanies Choral Union and helps provide a foundation of excellent artistic collaboration and support.

The Choral Union will perform Giovanni Gabrieli's "In Ecclesiis". This wonderful musical tapestry was written for double chorus, three trombones, three trumpets and keyboard. Alan Giambattista and Ithaca College trumpet and trombone players will be the instrumentalists for the work.

All audience members who wish to do so should be prepared to come to the front for the last selection on the program. It will be Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus".

The Arts at Grace is a community outreach effort of Grace Episcopal/Holy Spirit Lutheran Church assisted by the Wilkins Foundation, individuals and businesses from the greater Cortland community. The series has received assistance from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grants. Admission to all Arts at Grace events is free, but voluntary donations are welcome.
